There are so many benefits to being a part of the Artists’ Workshop. Aside from the camaraderie, treats, friendship and encouragement, is the benefit of the monthly(ish) critique sessions.
Members are given an opportunity to bring in work that they have some kind of question about.
We start with the question – “What are you looking for from this critique”?
I might be wondering – is it finished? Does it need any major or minor changes? Should I toss it and start over or is it something minor that I just can’t put my finger on?
One group member takes notes while we offer comments on what we see and what might strengthen the artwork. Of course, it is up to the artists if any of the suggestions are implemented.
Sometimes, someone will see something that I completely missed that can make a world of difference.
The group offers up what I have found to be helpful, thoughtful, and interesting suggestions with the utmost kindness. Because of this I have gone from being intimidated by the process to looking forward to it.
Together we can move a piece from being good to being very good and I believe that is what creative synergy is all about.
