The Inside Story – Sharron Schoenfeld

When I approach a blank canvas or sheet of paper, I’m drawn to the interplay of colour, light, and the subtle beauty found in ordinary moments. Character homes, with their weathered textures and the stories etched into their walls, spark my imagination. They aren’t just structures; they’re living, breathing entities filled with history and emotion. Similarly, still life arrangements captivate me—the way a simple vase of flowers or a cluster of fruit can hold a world of depth and vibrance.

I find myself chasing the impressionist’s dream: to capture not the perfect detail, but the fleeting emotion of a moment, the way a warm afternoon light plays off a window or the glow of a flower petal catches the eye. Creating art grounds me. The world may whirl with noise, but when I draw or paint, I am steady, centered, and completely present. I find joy in playing with colours, allowing them to clash or harmonize until they sing. This process feels like home, a space where I can lose and find myself all at once, stitching pieces of my inner world into the fabric of my art.
