Every now and then I see a completed painting in my mind’s eye. Sometimes I have to I set about developing the skills I need to complete it. The first time this happened was in 1999 when I saw 4 or 5 square pieces in a row of peonies, dahlias, and begonias. It was both exciting and terrifying, but it was the start of a long and enjoyable process. Every now and then I wander into landscape territory, but I’ve been painting mostly florals since 1999.
