Jill Scott

My name is Jill Scott  I grew up on a farm east of Saskatoon and there I loved being a child. I explored and spent much of my time in nature and with animals and with my dear cousins that lived across the yard. As a child,I loved to do art at home, school , and for art contests at the local library or through the paper. I remember even as a child how art relaxed me and transformed my thoughts to what I was presently working on. Throughout high school I was really  not involved in art. In my adult years, I dabbled in art off and on, on my own.

One day I joined an art class with Gail Adams school of Art. Her studio was located right behind my place of work  I took classes and workshops for approximately 20 years from Gail Adams herself, her excellent students, as well as through Hugo Alvarado from Saskatoon.

About 5 years has passed since I took classes, but I am still eager to learn more. I continue to be passionate about art and nature. I love  to work from photos and create interesting compositions. I am starting to work Plein Air which is very enjoyable. I love to use soft chalk pastels that glide on my board or paper. The colors I use are so vibrant and  varied. When I am working on a piece of art, I become totally immersed with it and all of my other thoughts become back ground noise. It is not uncommon for me to start several pieces and work on up to 6 at a time. I have done work with acrylic , oil and mixed media in the past , however, my favorite medium is pastel.

I don’t think I’ ve ever been more passionate about anything else in my life, besides my children, family, and the natural world. I love bringing attention to the natural beauty of our environment around us, animals and their environment, and the beauty of children. I paint from my heart. I paint what inspires me, what excites me and what I see beauty in. I hope that the viewer will see in my art , the beauty that I see, in what I’m creating.

I’m grateful today that my path led me to a life of art. I  believe that art transforms lives. It is therapeutic and esthetically pleasing.

I will always be an artist as long as I’m able.
