Artists’ Workshop is a diverse group of 9 artists who use different mediums to create art. We come from varied artistic educational backgrounds, and each of us have experienced and grown our art practises in different ways. Our group meets each Monday from September through April at Grace-Westminster Church to create art.

Viewpoints – Celeste Dumonceaux Delahey
When I paint I feel joyful as most of my memories of the prairie remind me of these things. I hope my paintings give the viewer a feeling of freedom, an appreciation of the land, and the beauty of the wide open spaces and big dramatic skies.

The weekend reminded us how much we enjoy sharing our art and talking about art with those who appreciate it just as much as we do. By the end of the show, our feet were tired, but our hearts were full.

Growing up on a farm in southern Saskatchewan has given me a great appreciation for the prairie and the landscape. Having parents as farmers meant you were always looking at the crops, the garden, creeks, sloughs, bushes in the fields, long gravel roads, and the sky – will it rain, hail, be excessively windy or hot in the summer, how much snow will we get?

While I love exploring new media and techniques, I regularly circle back to my favourite: collage. Thinking about collage in terms of connections brings so much to mind.

During the last two years I have spent a lot of time working on a children’s book for my granddaughters. I have always loved children’s book art. I think that it is the storytelling aspect that draws me to these beautiful and often amazing illustrations and images.

It’s when I’ve been able to immerse myself in learning and practice for sustained periods of time that I’ve grown the most as an artist. Setting aside the demands of everyday life to explore and connect with new ideas helps me put those ideas into practice.

My mother pointing out the incoming storms, the fading light on the Prairie each night, and the blooming of tiny little weeds under foot. The more I explore this connection, the more I see that she was my first and most significant teacher.
